Great question! PitPat is a dog activity monitor – a small, lightweight and waterproof device that attaches securely your dog’s collar and connects via Bluetooth to a free app.
The app gives your dog a tailored exercise goal based on their age, weight and breed and tracks their daily activity letting you know if you hit your goal. It also gives you a breakdown of their walking, running, resting and playing as well as calories burnt. PitPat 2 also shows distance travelled!
PitPat 2 has a smaller and sleeker design. It’s more robust and has easy-to-replace removable Velcro. The battery is really easy to change and will still last for up to a year!
PitPat 2 also has a new feature in that it measures distance in miles or kilometres (in addition to minutes of exercise and calories burnt).
Here’s what it looks like:
Yes! PitPat 2 is fully waterproof so you don’t have to take it off when your dog goes swimming or has hydrotherapy.
PitPat 1 is suitable for short term immersion (dips in a pond, splashing in the sea etc) up to 1m. For prolonged immersion or washing, PitPat 1 should be removed temporarily.
For the techies – PitPat is rated to IP67.
No. PitPat has been designed to attach to your dog’s existing collar or harness. As a guideline PitPat will fit collars up to 30mm wide and 5mm thick.
You can add a Velcro kit with extra-long Velcro to your shopping cart at the checkout for wider collars.

PitPat 1 uses a low cost CR1632 coin cell which can be replaced by removing the 4 screws on the back of the device.
PitPat 2 uses a low cost CR2032 coin cell (similar to a watch or remote control battery) which is available from most supermarkets or electronics stores. The battery in PitPat 2 can be replaced with no tools (quarter turn battery compartment).
Our batteries last for up to 1 year!
1. Ask the other person to download the PitPat app onto their phone and create their own separate account. Unlike you, they should not “add a dog” at the end of the account creation process, but instead should “skip this step”, thus ending up in the featureless desert of PitPat with no dogs.
2. Within your own account, tap on your dog’s photo to get into your dog’s profile. Scroll down to the SHARE THIS DOG button, and tap it.
3. Enter the email address that the other person used to create their own PitPat account and tap SHARE MY DOG. You won’t get any confirmation, but the “Share the love” screen will go away.
4. After a few minutes, the other person should see the dog in their app. They may have to “pull down to refresh” to encourage it to appear. If that doesn’t work, possible remedies including signing out (from the menu) and signing in again, and/or quitting the app (from the task manager) and firing it up again.
5. If the dog still doesn’t appear in their account, check whether it says “You already share <your dog> with” and the right email address when you tap SHARE THIS DOG from the dog’s profile (step 3 above). If not, try again with the right email address.
Please note that dog share is only possible with the new V2 app.
Unlike other activity monitors PitPat does not need to be recharged. Advanced power management allows PitPat to work for over a year using a low cost coin cell battery. This helps reduce manufacturing cost, meaning PitPat is significantly lower cost than similar devices. PitPat also does not have a subscription fee.

Not only does PitPat measure your dog’s activity each day, it also estimates calories burnt. It’s important that you enter an accurate weight for your dog and keep this up-to-date as this will affect the calculation. Our proprietary algorithms also take into consideration factors including the age of your dog and whether it has been neutered or not. This handy feature will help you plan feeding and keep your pooch in tip-top shape.
We’re sure your dog will love PitPat but if you need to have a word we recommend using translateforanimals. Woof woof.
Sorry cat lovers, for the moment PitPat is just for dogs.
No, PitPat is an activity monitor (walking, running, sleeping, playing etc.) and does not have GPS.
PitPat captures your dog’s motion using a three-axis accelerometer. Our advanced algorithms interpret this motion and translate it into specific activity types (walking, running, playing and resting). We then compare this data to guidelines from over 200 breeds of dog and provide simple advice and recommendations.

PitPat judges walking and running by sensing the natural gait motion of the dog. PitPat judges the difference between walking and running by the intensity/exertion. If a dog is constantly changing from walking, to running, to stopping and changing direction this is characteristic of many dog games and the activity is interpreted as playing. PitPat looks at the different activities over a 5-10 minute period and then classifies the activity as the one which was the most prominent in the period. For walking and running PitPat also looks at the consistency/regularity of the motion in the period of time to make sure it is owner initiated exercise that is counted towards the goal (as opposed to the dog pottering around the house).
